Smart Deco was founded in 2011 by Ben and Viive Ralston in Cornelius, NC. The motivation behind our business is the belief that the way people decorate is changing.

We say there is no “right” way to decorate your home.  There is no such thing as “good” furniture and “bad” furniture.  There is no one style to follow.  But there is a smart way to decorate.

We believe that you should decorate with what you love, making a purchase when (and only when) you find something you simply cannot live without.  Gone are the days of “going furniture shopping” and buying 5 complete rooms of furniture at an outlet one Saturday afternoon.  Instead, check out flea markets, browse your local boutiques, and get ideas from the plethora of online design blogs and e-zines.  Don’t let anyone tell you what is hot, and what is not – create your own style!  We call this style “Smart Deco”.

Smart Deco means you’ve thought about it, coordinated it yourself, and created an environment for you and your family.  A Smart Deco home is never complete.  You are always looking for something to upgrade, or something to pull the room together.

A Smart Deco home has pieces from your grandmother’s home, and something that you totally splurged on, straight from the pages of Elle Decor.  Equally as important, a Smart Deco home is friendly to the environment.  Rather than exporting all of your “disposable” furniture to the nearest landfill, you buy things that will last a generation or two, things that your grandchildren will call “vintage” and mix in with their own Smart Deco homes.
